To schedule a lesson, a learner should click the 'Schedule a lesson' button and then choose the tutor to schedule their lesson with, which can be done in two ways:
- The learner can choose the tutor for the lesson using our Tutor Recommendation Algorithm, which is a tool that recommends 5 best tutors based on the learner's preferences and needs.
- Or the learner can choose the tutor on the Tutors page.
After choosing the tutor, the learner will see a calendar with the tutor's available times. The learner will choose the date, time and duration of the lesson according to the availability that appears, or the learner may also choose a time outside of the indicated availability.
For an in-person lesson, the learner will also include the location with the date, time and duration.
After scheduling the lesson, the learner will pay for the lesson and wait for the tutor's confirmation. The learner will receive an update on the lesson confirmation

How are materials used during a lesson?

For online lessons, the tutor is required to add lesson materials before each lesson. These materials are displayed on the right side of the screen in the Online Lesson Space and can be easily downloaded by tutors and learners, or opened in a new window.

To facilitate interaction with the lesson materials, there is a text, shape and pen tool that allows the tutor and learner to synchronously modify the materials directly in the Online Lesson Space during the lesson. For example, if you are doing an exercise on a specific page, the learner can insert the answer and the tutor will be able to mark the answer or modify it. Any changes with the tools are visible and editable for both the learner and tutor, and the page with these edits can be easily downloaded.
For in-person lessons, the tutor and learner can choose to take the lesson materials on a portable device (such as laptop, mobile phone and tablet) or to take printed materials.

What if I have a technical problem with the Online Lesson Space?

We ask learners and tutors to access the Online Lesson Space before their lesson to ensure that their camera and microphone are functioning normally.
It is important to verify that you have the necessary settings for online lessons. You must have the latest version of one of the following browsers:
For desktop and laptop computers: Google Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Electron, Safari.
And for mobile devices: Google Chrome for Android, Firefox for Android, Safari for iOS iPhone / iPad.
If your camera is not working, make sure that access is not being blocked by your browser.

What if a tutor doesn't show up for a lesson?

If a tutor does not show up for a confirmed lesson, then the learner will receive the credit that was used to pay for this lesson back in their account as a refund, and the learner will also receive credit for 1 free lesson to compensate for the inconvenience caused by the tutor’s absence.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule a lesson?

Tutors and learners can cancel or reschedule lessons up to 24 hours before a lesson. If a lesson is cancelled or rescheduled less than 24 hours before the lesson, then the person rescheduling or cancelling may suffer a penalty. The penalty for a learner is losing the payment for the lesson which is transferred to the tutor, and the penalty for a tutor is also losing the value of the lesson from their credit which is transferred to the learner. Whoever did not reschedule or cancel the lesson decides to impose this penalty or not, it is not an automatic penalty. 
If you need to reschedule or cancel a lesson, you should click the 'Edit lesson' button on your Lessons page and select the reason and/or write an explanation. If you are doing this less than 24 hours before your lesson, it is important to add an explanation if you would like your tutor or learner to waive the penalty. This explanation will be sent directly to your tutor or learner and they will be able to decide to penalize your late cancellation or rescheduling, or not.

How do you guarantee quality control?

Quality control is a top priority for our team. To start teaching, all tutors must complete our Tutor Application. This includes program training during which all tutors must read our Tutor Guidebook and pass a comprehension text proving that they thoroughly understand the guidelines for teaching on our platform. We also additionally require all tutors to confirm they have read and understand the rules, regulations and expectations of our platform. If for any reason, there is any dissatisfaction with the quality of a tutor, learners receive a refund for their payment.

We use very secure payment processing systems to keep your information safe: PayPal and Stripe. Stripe has been audited by a PCI-certified auditor and is certified to PCI Service Provider Level 1. This is the most stringent level of certification available in the payments industry. Stripe is also used by Amazon, Zoom, Google, Uber, Booking.com, UNICEF, Slack and many others. PayPal uses end-to-end encryption and complies with stringent requirements for data protection. PayPal is also used by popular apps including Netflix, Airbnb, Uber, Starbucks and Spotify.

For this reason, our tutors will only start working with students if they can guarantee continued availability for the student. However, if for any reason you want to change tutors, you can of course change tutors at any time.

We also reward both tutors and learners when packages of lessons are purchased. We believe packages are important because when students buy a package of lessons rather than single lessons, they are providing stability of income for our tutors. Additionally, they are saving money because the price per hour for lessons decreases. To account for this discounted price, the platform absorbs the 100% of loss.

We value our tutors tremendously, and believe that they should get the most of each lesson payment as possible. So while other tutoring platforms charge tutors a fee of 25% or more on all lesson payments, our fee is only 6.25% for our most commonly purchased package - so tutors keep 93.75% of each lesson payment. And we waive our fee completely when tutors refer new students to the platform - in this case the tutor keeps 100% of all lesson payments.

We use Stripe and PayPal to send tutor payments, so it is important to consider that these services may extract an additional fee from our hourly pay rate.

How do the tutor tiers work?

Our platform was built by educators - we value the experience and dedication of each tutor and believe that good work should be rewarded. Our tier system gives tutors with highly-rated lessons (at least 3 out of 5 stars) the option to increase their hourly rate: 
Novice Tutors: less than 40 hours of highly rated lessons
Experienced Tutors: 40 to 80 hours of highly rated lessons
Expert Tutors: more than 80 hours of highly rated lessons

When a lesson ends, both tutor and learner must mark the lesson as completed. Tutor payments are released 14 days after the lesson is marked as completed via PayPal or as credit for lessons.

Our algorithm indicates to each learner the top 5 recommended tutors for their specific needs. Each of these recommended tutors receives an email inviting them to schedule a lesson with the learner. The learner can also schedule a lesson with any of these recommended tutors. After the lesson is scheduled, tutors must wait for the learner to confirm the lesson.
Tutors can also share their referral codes to encourage learners to schedule lessons with them to receive a discount.

- Active tutors (activity is how often a tutor logs into their profile) often have more learners.
- Tutors with complete, professional-looking profiles often have more learners.

- Tutors with more available hours in their profile often have more learners.
It is important to keep in mind that these are recommendations, but the choice of tutor is always up to learners so we cannot guarantee any specific number of learners to tutors.

You can also share your referral code to bring in new learners, and these lessons will also be exempt of the platform fee.

How do group lessons work?

Our group lessons function very similarly to our one-on-one lessons. The key differences are:
	1) Instead of having 2 participants in your online or in-person lesson, you will have other students in the lesson with you.
	2) When your tutor conducts the level assessments, they will be conducted with each member of your group answering the oral test questions.
	3) When your tutor assigns and grades homework, this will be done for each member of the group (not only you).
	4)You will divide the normal lesson price with your fellow group members.
	5) Anyone in your group can schedule, confirm, cancel or reschedule lessons on behalf of the entire group.

How do I request or schedule group lessons?

When you complete the steps which request your language preferences and availability to see which of our tutors are best suited for you, you will also be asked to confirm which type of lessons you would like to have. You should select Group Lessons, and then either choose a pre-existing group (if you already formed one), or click the option “create a group”. You will then add a group name and send up to 2 invitations to the other group members. Your invited group members will receive an email alert and will be able to login and confirm that they would like to join your group. Whoever is a confirmed group member will see the lessons you schedule for the group in their account and will be able to attend the group’s lessons. Members can also leave a group at any time from their Preferences page.

To schedule a group lesson, follow these steps:
	1) Sign up, or click the “Schedule a Lesson” button and then the “Request your top 5 tutors from our Tutor Recommendation Algorithm™” button if you already have an account.
	2) Complete the steps which request your language preferences and availability to see which of our tutors is best suited for you.
	3) During these steps, when asked which type of lesson you would like, select Group Lessons.
	4) At this point you can either create your group, or choose a pre-existing group.
	5)When you see your results with the best tutors for you, choose the tutor you prefer and schedule your group lesson.
	6) The tutor will either confirm, reschedule or cancel the lesson if they are unavailable within 24 hours.
	7) As soon as you have scheduled the lesson, it will appear on the Lessons page of your group members. Anyone in your group will be able to schedule, confirm, cancel or reschedule lessons on behalf of your group.
