Jun 29, 2021 / English / 2 mins read

It can be difficult for English learners to know whether to use play, do or go when talking about activities. The truth is that all three verbs are used to talk about sports, but each has a rule for use. Learn what they are in today’s post.

✅ PLAY
We use play for sports with teams, ball, rules, points, etc.
Examples:
Basketball and football.

✅ GO
We use go for activities that end in -ing, often activities which you can do alone.
Examples:
Hiking, snowboarding and swimming.

✅ DO
We use do for any other recreational activity.
Examples:
Aerobics and yoga.

Now let's practice!

Add play, go or do to the activities below:

1) ___ sailing
2) ___ tennis
3) ___ dancing
4) ___ rugby
5) ___ camping
