Do you feel confused when asking questions in Spanish using ‘qué’ and ‘cuál’?
Learn how to use these words correctly:
✅ Cuál
- In Spanish, the most commonly used question word with the verb to be is cuál.
- It is used in questions when you must choose among the components of a group (about which you usually have some previous information).
✅ Qué
- The word ‘que’ is used when a definition is requested.
- ‘Que’ is used when there is no previous information about what is requested.
For example:
➡ ¿Cuál es la capital de México?
La capital de Mexico es la Ciudad de México.
➡ ¿Qué es la capital?
Es la ciudad donde está físicamente el gobierno de un país.
➡ ¿Qué quieres tomar?
Quiero agua (qué porque el verbo que le sigue es querer.
➡ ¿Cuál jugo quieres?
El de naranja (se usa cuál porque es una elección entre varios).
