In today's post you will learn some interesting facts about the country that is home to the largest pyramid in the world: Mexico.
- The Great Pyramid of Cholula, located in the city of Cholula in Puebla, Mexico, is the largest pyramid in the world. It is an ancient temple with a base four times larger than Giza's, and almost double the volume. Since the structure is below layers of dirt and grass, it appears to be a mountain. The city where the pyramid is located, Cholula, was an important trading post, connecting the Tolteca-Chichimeca kingdoms in the North with the Maya in the South. At the time of the arrival of the Spanish, it was the second-largest city in the Aztec empire, second only to Tenochtitlan (now Mexico City).
- Another pyramid in Mexico (located in Yucatán), is Chichen Itza, which is one of the New 7 Wonders of the World and was of great economic and religious importance for the Mayans.
- The meteorite that killed the dinosaurs and 75% of animal and plant life landed in the Yucatán peninsula in México about 66 million years ago.
- Numerous important things were invented by Mexicans including: anti-graffiti paint, indelible ink, the tortilla machine, Color TV, Earthquake Resistant Foundations, and synthesized progestin norethindrone (oral contraceptive).
