✅ “Idioma” means language in Portuguese and Spanish - so it may be used by mistake in place of the word language.

Examples:

➡ Portuguese

Tem uma escola de idiomas perto da minha casa.

(There is a language school near my house.)

➡ Spanish

Hay una escuela de idiomas cerca de mi casa.

(There is a language school near my house.)

Interesting fact: In Portuguese, a cognate for "language" is the word "língua" - which is also the word for “tongue”.
