Have you ever been to Peru? In today's lesson you will learn some interesting facts about this beautiful country:


 

- There are three major languages: Spanish, Quechua and Aymara.

 

- The country's capital is Lima.

 

- Machu Picchu, an ancient Inca city, is one of the New Seven Wonders of the World andis  recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. It is located at an altitude of 7,972 feet or 2,430 meters above sea level.

 

- The llama is the oldest domesticated animal in the world and is native to Peru, Argentina, Bolivia and Chile.

 

- Do you like potatoes? Did you know that the Peruvians were the first to cultivate them! The Peruvian expression "Soy más Peruano que la papa" means "I am more Peruvian than the potato" and is related to the fact that there are more than 3 thousand varieties of potatoes in the country!

 

- Vinicunca, also known as Montaña de Siete Colores, or Rainbow Mountain is a mountain in the Andes region in Peru. It is 5,200 meters above sea level and has spectacular colors in its formation due to the minerals present in its composition.
