Learn some interesting facts today about French Polynesia:

 

- Despite being located in Oceania, French Polynesia is a French overseas country; this explains its name and its official language.

 

- French Polynesia has incredible scenery with clear water! The country is made up of five archipelagos and 118 islands in the South Pacific Ocean.

 

- Tahiti is the largest island in French Polynesia. Tahitian is the regional language of the Polynesian indigenous peoples. To say good morning to someone, say: ‘Ia ora na! If they answer you with: E aha tō ‘oe huru?, which means, How are you?, you can answer: Maita’i (Good!), Maita’i roa (Very good!) or even Maita’i ri’i (Not bad.)

 

- The isolated Bora Bora Island is one of the most famous islands and is considered one of the most romantic destinations for honeymooners.

 

- Bora Bora has an extinct volcano called Mount Otemanu.
