Have you heard of Easter Island?

It is a territory located in Chile in the Valparaíso Region. This Polynesian island known for its immense and mysterious stone statues called Moais, represents great cultural wealth for history.

 

Discover some interesting facts about Easter Island:

 

- It is believed that the name Easter Island was given by the Dutch admiral Jacob Roggeveen, who visited the island in 1722 on the date that Easter is celebrated.

 

- 'Rapa Nui' is the indigenous name of Easter Island. This is also the name of the native people who settled on the island in 300 BC and also of the Rapa Nui National Park, recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. 

 

- Easter Island has about 900 statues. The Moais statues are known around the world and attract visitors with their fascinating structure and landscape.

 

- It is not known exactly how the statues got to the island. The heaviest statue is 82 tons. It was a historic feat and continues to be a mystery.
