Have you ever been to China? In today's post you will learn some interesting facts about this place:

- The Chinese New Year celebration lasts for 15 days, The date varies each year according to the Chinese Lunar Calendar and is generally between January 21 and February 20 of the Gregorian calendar.

- Each year of the Chinese calendar is represented by an animal. 2020 is the year of the Rat and 2021 will be the year of the Ox.

- The Great Wall of China, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World and recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, is 20,000 kilometers long! It was built as a barrier to protect Chinese lands against invaders.

- Scientists at Zhejiang University in China were researching the makeup of mortar used for building the Great Wall when they realized something unusual was added to the standard mixture of lime (limestone that has been heated to a high temperature) and water: sticky rice. The mixture made it the world’s first example of composite mortar, including organic and inorganic material. Using sticky rice as a construction ingredient was one of the greatest innovations of the Ming dynasty, helping their structures (including tombs and pagodas as well) survive earthquakes and the elements, researchers said.

- The Great Wall is divided into sections. Badaling is the most visited part, close to Beijing.

- The Zhangjiajie glass bridge in China was built as an attraction for tourists and is considered the tallest bridge of its type in the world. At 430 meters long and 6 meters wide, it is suspended 300 meters above the beautiful landscape of Zhangjiajie, which inspired the movie Avatar. Crossing over the transparent bridge requires courage and many visitors have given up halfway. To add even more adrenaline to the visit, the bridge also features bungee jumping!
