Expand Your Vocabulary: Useful Indefinite Pronouns

Below are some common indefinite pronouns used in the singular. It is very important that when using them, we take care to conjugate the verb that follows appropriately. 

 

✅ Another = An additional thing or person.

Ex: That slice of pizza was delicious. I would like another please.

 

✅ Each = Every one of two or more things or people viewed separately.

Ex: Each has his coat and boots on.

 

✅ Either = One or the other of two things or people.

Ex: I think that either option sounds great.

 

✅ Less = A smaller quantity than something already mentioned.

Ex: For me, less is preferred.

 

✅ Little = A small quantity.

Ex: Little is known about her childhood.

 

✅ Much = A large quantity.

Ex: Much has happened since I last saw you.

 

✅ Neither = Not one and not the other of two things or people.

Ex: Neither of the apples is ripe.

 

✅ One = An unidentified thing or person

Ex: One got away.

 

✅ Other = A different thing or person from one already mentioned.

Ex: One was hungry but the other was not.
