Have you ever been to Madagascar? Learn some interesting facts about this island country in today’s lesson.

- Avenue of the Baobabs is a popular spot in the country. There are approximately 20 giant baobabs trees that can grow as high as 150 ft and some of them are around 800 years old! The tree branches roughly resemble roots and there is a legend that says they were thrown from the sky and were planted upside down. The avenue is close to Morondava town (Western Madagascar).

- There are several animals native to Madagascar including species of geckos, chameleons, frogs, snakes and lemurs. There are over 100 species of lemurs in Madagascar! They can be found in nature reserves, parks and zoos (lemurs are also notable figures in the movie Madagascar).

- There is a stone forest in Madagascar: The Tsingy de Bemaraha National Park has unique beauty! The sharp formations of limestone are the result of nature. Located in the Antsalova district (central-western part of the island), the nature reserve has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and is home to a rich biodiversity.
