In languages, there are words that are very similar. In today’s lesson, we will learn the definition and examples of homographs, homonyms and homophones:

 

✅ Homographs: 

Words that have the same spelling, but different meaning and pronunciation. 

 

Ex:

- Could you close the window, please? (Shut)

- It happened close to me. (Near)


 

✅ Homonyms: 

Words that have the same spelling and same pronunciation, but different meaning. 

 

Ex:

- I will watch a movie tonight. - (Look at)

- She is looking at her watch - (Small clock)


 

✅ Homophones:

Words that have the same pronunciation, but different meaning and spelling. 

 

Ex:

- I stayed there for two months. (Number)

- That sweater is too loose for me. (More)
