Fast Or Fastly Learn About Flat Adverbs
Fast or Fastly? Learn About Flat Adverbs
2020년 12월 31일 / 영어 / 3 분 읽기

Some words are both adjectives and adverbs. We call them flat adverbs. They don’t add -ly, they stay exactly the same whether they are used as adjectives or adverbs.

To determine whether these words are functioning as adjectives or adverbs, we must remember to determine what the word is describing (a noun or a verb).

There are also some adverbs that are used in some cases with their -ly ending, and used in other cases as flat adverbs in their adjective form (without -ly). These are often used as flat adverbs in common expressions.

Examples:

- Sleep tight.

- Take it easy.

- Be quick.

- Drive safe.

- Think different.

- The moon is shining bright

In these examples, the adverbs are still describing the verbs, they are simply in their usual adjective form.
