If someone asks you how your weekend went, do you respond using "well" or "good"?

And when you talk about someone's skills? Which one should you use?

Confusing “well” and “good” can be common for English learners. If you are unsure when to use these words, read the explanation below!

✅ Good is an adjective used to describe nouns.

Examples:

- He is a good swimmer.

- My teacher gave me good history books.

✅ While ‘well’ is an adverb used to describe verbs.

Examples:

- She speaks English very well.

- The presentation went well.

➡ We can use well with past participles:

- well-dressed      - well-known

- well-educated    - well-paid

➡ Lastly, well can also be an adjective meaning “in good health”:

- How are you doing?”

- I’m very well, thanks.”

Here is another example to show the difference:

- My friend dances very well.
