Do you like to cook? With this lesson you will learn that there are many verbs and words used specifically in the kitchen when cooking, and it is important to learn this vocabulary if this is something you enjoy and do often. And as a bonus at the end of the lesson we share a delicious recipe for you to try and practice your English!

 

✅ To bake: To cook food like cake, cookies and bread inside an oven.

 

✅ To roast: To cook food like meat, without liquid over a fire or in an oven.

 

✅ To boil: To heat a liquid until it starts to create bubbles and steam.

 

✅ To knead: To use the hands to stretch dough. This process is necessary to make bread.

 

✅ To fry: When you put food into a pan with hot oil or fat.

 

✅ To stir: When you use a spoon to mix food  in a circular pattern.

 

✅ To squeeze: To compress something to extract liquid. Ex: Orange and lemon juice.

 

✅ To whisk/to beat: To mix ingredients like cream or eggs fast with a form or whisk.

 

✅ To pour: To move a liquid from one container to another in a continuous flow/stream, especially by holding the container at an angle.

 

✅ To add: to put an ingredient in the mix.

 

✅ To spill: When a liquid accidentally flows over a recipient.

 

✅ To melt: When something solid is heated and turns liquid.

 

✅ To grate: Dividing something into smaller pieces through an object called grater.

 

✅ To peel: When we remove the outer layer/skin of a fruit or vegetable.

 

✅ To slice: To cut into pieces (we do with bread).

 

✅ To grease: To put oil on something like we do with cake pans.

 

✅ To sift: To put a substance like flour in an object called a sieve to remove large pieces.

 

✅ To grill: To heat a food by putting it on a grill.

 

✅ To drain: When we remove the liquid from a recipient.

 

✅ To blend: To mix ingredients in a blender.
