In most of the jobs listed on Linkedin you are requested to speak two or more languages ("A third language will be a plus" - I have read this many times). It doesn't matter what job you are applying for: telecomunications engineer, web designer, project manager or receptionist, in all these jobs speaking different languages is a must and not an option anymore.

That is why I will share with you 5 ways to learn a new language in a fast and fun way:

• Count in that language

It can sound a bit silly, but it actually works. For example, if you have to walk up the stairs, count the steps you are taking. Count in the language you want to learn. It will not only help you learn the numbers in that language, but your brain will start thinking more in that language and will no longer translate everything from your mothertongue.

A quick trick, do the mental math while you buy your groceries in the language you are learning. For example, if you have to pay 13.48€ and you have 20€, how much change will you have?

• Watch your favorite TV series in the language you are learning

Let's say you like "Lost" or "How I met your mother". So it's that simple. Start watching these television series in German, Spanish, Italian or any other language you want to learn. Set the audio to the language you are learning if you really need them, subtitles in your native language.

• Try an online platform

Our time is the most valuable thing we have. We have so many meetings, so many things to do and it is quite difficult to plan a lesson weekly and regularly. For this reason, if you try an online platfrom to learn a language, for example LIM Lessons, you will have a native speaker teaching you and you will be able to schedule your lessons whenever suits you best.

A good thing about it: You will be able to choose what you want to learn. For example: you may want to focus on learning the formal language, or you may be interested in learning a specific language you need in a job interview for example vocabulary about economics.

• Write a diary in the language you are learning

You will learn more vocabulary about your routine and it will be easier for you to talk about yourself in Spanish, Italian, French or the language you are learning. Moreover, you will get the chance to improve your writing skills in the new language.

**I highly recommend you try first reading a diary in the new language and then start writing yours. You can copy the structures, the vocabulary and the verbs that you read.

• Learn some idioms in the new language

Even if you have an A1 level in the language, you should stills start learning idioms.

For example, in Spanish we say "Me importa un pimiento" (Translated: For me it matters a pepper), which means "It is not important to me". Meanwhile, the same sentence in German is "Es ist mir Wurst" (Translated: For me it is like a sausage). Why for the Germans is a sausage not important, and for the Spanish a pepper is not important? Well, what is certain is that you just learned a word in Spanish and another one in German.
