How To Form Affirmative, Negative And Question Sentences in English

Do you know how to use the Simple Present? Learn the grammatical rules for forming sentences in this tense in today's lesson:


 

☑ Affirmative sentences 

Verb changes in the 3rd person singular to infinitive + s (he, she and it):

 

Examples:

- We like English.   -  He likes French.

- I live in Australia.   -   My sister lives in Canada.

- They play tennis.   -  James plays football.


 

☑ Negative sentences use the auxiliary do:

 

Examples:

- I don’t like coffee.   -   My father doesn’t like coffee.

- I don't watch television every day.   -   He doesn’t watch television every day.


 

☑ Questions use the auxiliary do:

- Do you speak Spanish?   -   Does she speak Spanish?

- Do you play baseball?   -   Does he play baseball?
