How To Use Put Off And Take Off
How To Use Put Off And Take Off
2021年9月12日 / 英語 / 1 読まれた分

Phrasal verbs can be quite confusing for anyone learning English.

In this text you will learn the difference between ‘put off’ and ‘take off’ and understand in which situations to use each one.

✅ Put off

‘To put something off’ means to postpone something.

Ex: Will they put off the meeting again?

✅ Take off

‘To take something off’ means to remove something.

Ex: I took my sweater off because I was hot.

A curious fact that confuses learning is that ‘take off’ is the opposite of ‘put on’. So you put a piece of clothing on your body, but you don't put it off, you ‘take off’ this piece of clothing.

Important:

“If you want to put your coat off, I can hang it up for you” → INCORRECT

“If you want to take your coat off, I can hang it up for you” → CORRECT

Write in the comments section phrasal verbs you find confusing.
