Der = the (masculine), die = the (feminine) and das = the (neuter).

Ex: der wagen (the car), die tür (the door) and das blau (the blue).

The cute symbol of the traffic light is from old East Berlin and indicates when pedestrians can cross.

- Germans are big consumers of beer. When they order a beer, they show their thumb to order one, and to order two they show their thumb and forefinger.

- Oktoberfest is the world's largest Volksfest (large event in Germany which usually combines a beer festival or wine festival and a travelling funfair). Held annually in Munich, Bavaria, Germany, it is a 16- to 18-day folk festival running from mid- or late September to the first Sunday in October, with more than six million people from around the world attending the event every year.
