Bitter Or Sour? Learn To Describe Food in English

Sharing a meal is very common, so it is important to be able to communicate fluently and confidently to build relationships in other languages.

Learn this useful vocabulary about food:

 

✅ bitter - the flavor of dark chocolate, the opposite of sweet

 

✅ bland - no flavor

 

✅ to burn - to overcook and ruin the food with too much fire

 

✅ chewy - food that takes a lot of time to chew

 

✅ creamy - a thick liquid texture

 

✅ crispy - a solid texture on the outside like potato chips.

 

✅ crunchy - a solid texture on the inside like a nut

 

✅ fatty - something made with lots of grease

 

✅ fresh - recently produced or prepared

 

✅ delicious - very good

 

✅ disgusting - very bad

 

✅ to get - to buy (informal)

 

✅ greasy - with a lot of grease or oil, unhealthy

 

✅ heavy - food that makes you feel very full

 

✅ light - food that doesn’t make you feel very full

 

✅ overripe - fruits or vegetables that are beyond being ready to eat

 

✅ round - the shape of a tomato

 

✅ salty - with too much salt, not a good thing

 

✅ savory - with a nice amount of salt, a good thing

 

✅ to season - to add flavor and spices to food

 

✅ smooth - a texture without bumps or imperfections

 

✅ to snack - to eat some light food between meals

 

✅ sour - the flavor of vinegar and lemons, an acidic flavor

 

✅ spicy - the flavor of jalapeno peppers

 

✅ sweet - the flavor of sugar

 

✅ tart - an almost-sour flavor, like cranberries

 

✅ tough - meat that is difficult to chew and over-cooked

 

✅ unripe - fruits or vegetables that are not yet ready to eat

 

✅ well-done - meat that is cooked a lot

 

✅ yummy - very tasty
