Relative pronouns are essential for connecting information within a sentence. Learning what they are and how to use them will help you feel more confident when speaking English.

✅ Who

Subject or object pronoun for people.

Ex: Kate is a teacher who lives in London.

✅ Which

Subject or object pronoun for animals and things / Referring to a whole sentence.

Ex: An orange is a fruit which has Vitamin C.

✅ Whose

Possession for people, animals and things.

Ex: Whose purse is this?

✅ Whom

Object pronoun for people, especially in non-defining relative clauses (in defining relative clauses we colloquially prefer who).

Ex: To whom are you giving this gift?

✅ That

Subject or object pronoun for people, animals and things in defining relative clauses (who or which are also possible).

Ex: That is exactly what I was going to say.
