Have you ever confused the words 'powder' and 'dust'? Both refer to small dry particles but they are used in completely different contexts. In today's lesson, you will learn what they mean and when to use them.


 

✅ Powder (noun)

 

Small pieces of some ground or crushed substance.


 

Ex:

Cocoa powder, milk powder, baking powder, baby powder and washing powder.


 

✅ Dust (​as a noun)

 

A fine powder that consists of very small pieces of sand, earth, etc.

 

Ex:

- I sneezed a lot because of my dust allergy.

- These old books were full of dust.


 

✅ Dust (as a verb)

 

To clean the dust.

Ex:

I was dusting the shelf when I noticed that the mug was broken.
