Le Une And Beyond Learn To Use French Articles
Le, Une And Beyond - Learn To Use French Articles
28 feb 2021 / Francés / 3 minutos leídos

In English, articles vary between "a", "an" and "the", but in French, articles may vary according to gender and quantity.

Definite Articles:

✅ 'Le' is used for masculine nouns in the singular.

Example:

- C’est le lait de sa vache.

(it's cow's milk)

✅ 'La' is used for feminine nouns in the singular.

Example:

-  C’est la voiture de Paul.

(It's Paul's car)

✅ 'L' ’is used as an abbreviation for 'le' and 'la' with nouns beginning with a vowel or a silent H.

Examples:

- L’abeille (the bee)

- L'hôtel (the hotel)

✅ 'Les' is used for both masculine and feminine nouns in their plural form.

Example:

- Les jeux de qqn.

(Someone's games)

Indefinite Articles:

✅ Un/une

We use 'un' for masculine nouns and 'une' for feminine nouns, both for singular nouns.

Examples:

- Il parle d'un film amusant.

(He's talking about a fun movie)

- Je voudrais une tarte aux pommes.

(I would like an apple pie)

✅ 'Des' is used for partitive words, in the same way we use "some" in English.

Examples:

- Des gâteaux, des fruits

(some cakes, some fruits)
