How To Use Relative Clauses
How To Use Relative Clauses
24 oct 2021 / Inglés / 3 minutos leídos

Relative clauses allow us to combine sentences without repetition.

✅ Relative pronouns:

- Who = subject or object pronoun for people.

- Which = subject or object pronoun for animals and things.

- Which = referring to a whole sentence.

- Whose = possession for people animals and things.

- Whom = object pronoun for people, especially in non-defining relative clauses (in defining relative clauses we colloquially prefer who).

- That = subject or object pronoun for people, animals and things in defining relative clauses (who or which are also possible).

✅ Relative adverbs:

- When = refers to a time expression.

- Where = refers to a place.

- Why = refers to a reason.

Let’s practice!

Complete the sentence with a relative clause.

Ex. A waiter is someone (bring you food at a restaurant) - A waiter is someone who brings you food at a restaurant.
